Welcome to Overlivollen
Overlivollen lies at the head of the Synnerdalen valley, an idyllic spot with a view into Forollhogna to the south.
The summer-pasture mountain farms were acquired by the farm in the middle of the 1820s. Due to changed methods on the farm, and not least the 40-kilometer trek, use of the pastures came to and end in 1951. In 2002, however, there was new active dairying, this time with goats, at Overlivollen. So as not to destroy the character of the old mountain farm complex, a new wooden building has now been erected just outside that houses the animals, cookhouse and café.
Old, idyllic and red-painted mountain farm buildings have been preserved as they were when the complex was developed in the middle of the 1820s. Here you can really feel the walls speaking to you.
The summer months at the mountain farms are balm to the souls of both four-legged and two-legged creatures. The goats and their young enjoy the excellent mountain grazing just outside the byre/barn door, where they can guzzle to their hearts' content. Experienced dairymaids and many of our visitors greatly appreciate the summer milk because the fine pasturage gives it an extra rich taste. We use this milk to make genuine brown goat cheese and goat prim (whey cheese) in the traditional way. If you want to see how this is done, you can watch us at the boiling. In the daytime the animals are mostly up on the mountain, but in the evening they come down to be milked.
Our neighbours have cows and calves instead, and there are also sheep grazing. All together this makes for an active pastoral valley where people and animals live in harmony with Nature.
